All Waimea Middle School families and community friends are invited to one of two free K(Arts) Grand Finale community performances by about 80 students at Kahilu Theatre at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and 1 p.m. Thursday.

This year’s Fall K(Arts) Grand Finale production will replicate a “Talk Show” as students share what they’ve learned in hula, drumming, juggling, art and backstage production classes under the guidance of community instructors.

Doors to Kahilu Theatre will open at 5 p.m. Wednesday and seating will be first-come-first served. Thursday’s performance is for the entire middle school plus Waimea Elementary School’s fifth graders so front sections of the theater will be reserved for students, but there will be plenty of room for families and community. Students will be seated first and theater doors open to all others about 12:50 p.m.

Now in its ninth year, K(Arts) is a popular free after-school arts exploratory offered to all WMS students. It is a partnership between Kahilu Theatre Foundation and Waimea Middle School that draws on grants and gifts from these two organizations and also Hookakoo Corp., The Neilan Foundation, the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and private donors.

K(Arts) is one of several youth arts education programs sponsored by Kahilu Theatre Foundation as part of its commitment to sustain its late founder Richard Smart’s vision as a vital creative and educational hub for the community.
